Working on a one-of-a-kind automobile is always a privilege. Doing so on a car that represents a fundamental chapter in the history of motoring — and that bears the name of one of the most iconic figures of Italian industry — is something even rarer.
We are proud to share our restoration work on the Ferrari 365 P once owned by Avvocato Gianni Agnelli, a model of extraordinary historical and collectible importance, symbol of an unrepeatable era and of a vision of the automobile as the highest expression of engineering, style, and culture.
A legendary model
The Ferrari 365 P was unveiled at the 1966 Paris Motor Show in the refined Bianco Gardenia color. Its beauty immediately captivated Gianni Agnelli as well, who decided to commission a second example, delivered the following year in Turin in
metallic silver and fitted with a rear spoiler.
From the very first glance, the 365 P impresses with its shapes: a long, sleek, and essential profile, with a slightly tapered rear and protruding rear pillars. A design that anticipates certain stylistic solutions of the future Dino, while maintaining more generous proportions. The exterior details were remarkably advanced for the time: a roof made of special solar-filtering glass sourced from Germany, an exposed fuel filler cap, air intakes ahead of the rear wheel arches, and twin exhaust outlets.
But the real surprise lies inside the cabin. The Ferrari 365 P is in fact a three-seater, with the driver’s seat positioned centrally—a solution extremely rare for a road car of the 1960s and destined to remain a unique configuration for many years.
The history of the two examples is equally fascinating. The white car was purchased by American importer Luigi Chinetti, who sold and repurchased it several times. In 2014 it was offered at auction with approximately 7,900 km on the odometer, but a bid of 23 million dollars was not accepted. Gianni Agnelli’s example, on the other hand, remained in his possession for several years before being sold in the United States. Over time, one of the two cars was repainted first in metallic blue and later in red, yet the original colors remain white and metallic silver.
Gianni Agnelli’s famous comment on the 365 P is well known:
“You barely had time to stop before people were already all around you. But it was fun. It had monstrous acceleration. You just had to get used to the central driving position, because you lacked a reference point for the limit on either side, right or left.”
An automobile that is not only a masterpiece of design and engineering, but a true piece of international automotive history.
A task of great responsibility
Taking on the restoration of a car of this caliber means assuming enormous responsibility: every detail, every finish, and every technical choice must respect the authenticity, history, and original identity of the vehicle. Our approach was guided by meticulous research into period documents and photographs, and by deep respect for the model’s originality, with the aim of preserving its soul and historical value—intervening only where necessary and always according to philological criteria. The car remained on display at the MAUTO in Turin until February 18, 2023.
